Dining Room Turned Play Room :)

Updated: Apr 8, 2021

We said RIP to our formal dining room and transformed it into a fun and functional playroom for Gabe. Because -- let's be real, we weren't hosting dinner parties. There was a lot more playing than there was entertaining, so this just seemed like the best use of our 500 sq foot first floor. Sharing all the details and the links below. But first, watch the playroom tour below.

I love this piece - it is super functional and holds so many of his toys. Gabe loves to access the toys in the bottom compartments. I store all his favorites towards the bottom so he can get to them and then I keep the stuff that I retrieve for him above.

The bins came from Target. I love the top two bins because they are two-in-one and can be used the way you see above or long-ways. Grab these while you can because they are going quick!

The felt bins are great because they are sturdy enough while also being kid-friendly. He can pull them down with ease and I don't have to worry about them hurting him in the process.

The small wire bins are just too cute, I couldn't help myself. The are sturdy but small, so Gabe is able to handle them.

I got my rattan chair from Facebook marketplace for $25 (score!), but I found this one , which is similar. This one is also similar and is one of the cheaper ones I have found.

This tent is one of my favorite parts of the room. Gabe loves to hangout in there, look at books, play his instruments, etc. I love that you can stick toys in there and it still looks "put away". Unfortunately, this exact tent from Target is sold out (boo), but I found a similar one which I may even like more! *heart-eyes*

I love this piece to store his trucks and trains. The doors hide everything away when the toys aren't being used! It is also the perfect height for Gabe to stand at. Additionally, it provides extra seating for adults, which is super important to keep in mind when planning your playroom setup! This way, if your playdate come with his/her mom, the mamas also have a place to sit (other than the floor). This bin, which fits perfectly in the opening, is also from Target. I got these leather pulls from Amazon to match the tan color that is sprinkled around the room as well as the gold (which matches the bins from the other furniture piece).

Gabe got this table from his aunt and uncle for his birthday and I love it! It is a great size and height. I found this rug for only $52 and it fits just perfectly under the table.

Also, check out this crazy dupe! This rug is $215 at Pottery Barn. You can get THIS ONE on Amazon for under $40. It's so similar!

I got these prints from Etsy that tie in all the colors of the room without being too busy. The teacher in me just had to have the alphabet and the numbers displayed somewhere in the room! They came as a download and then you can choose which size you want to print. I have found that Walmart is cheapest for large prints. I got these white, 16x20 frames on Amazon for $10 each!

This bookrack is sturdy and less than $30. Gabe has no problem retrieving the books from it. I use it to store our seasonal books.

We use this gate to close the room off when not in use or to ensure Gabe stays inside. The wallpaper is my favorite feature of the room! It is sold on Amazon and is on sale currently.

The finishing touches include this adorable beaded light fixture and these corner shelves from Amazon. This fun floor mat is from Ruggish Co. It is like a huge yoga mat and is cushiony and thick. On one side is a grey and white muted pattern that matches everything - we used it in our living room! On the other side is a road-map (seen below) that Gabe has a blast with, driving his cars all over the paths.
